About LAS

The Louisiana Aviculture Society (LAS) is a non-profit organization for bird lovers. Its purpose is to educate and instruct on the proper care, handling and maintenance of psittaciformes, to encourage companion bird and captive breeding programs, and to encourage research and educational programs about parrots and other pet birds.

The Louisiana Aviculture Society is composed of both pet bird owners and breeders. We publish a monthly newsletter, From The Perch, which includes club information, photos, classified ads and informative articles on bird care. Our main purpose is to educate bird owners about responsible bird care.  LAS is a non-profit corporation.  A portion of our annual budget is donated to support avian researchers such as Dr. Tom Tulley at LSU School of Veterinary Medicine.   Through Project Safe Parrot, we coordinate the rescue and rehabilitation of unwanted birds through an association of concerned breeders and individual family members.

At LAS it is all about the birds.  We are dedicated to responsible bird ownership through education and example.   Our members include breeders, pet shop owners, and parrot owners who share their homes with many birds, and there are members who are proud to have that one special parrot, finch, canary, cockatiel or parakeet.  Please join us and share the unique experience of membership in Louisiana Aviculture Society.
